1 Deployment Overview of Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration

1.1 Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration Overview

The Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration includes Oracle Applications 11i. Before you can deploy Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration components, you must fulfill the certified operating system and hardware requirements specified in this guide. This guide provides instructions on performing the following tasks:

• Running the setup.sh script to install the Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration Utility Pack to your system and to update the operating system.

• Running the ocheck validation script to make sure you have the proper operating environment.

• Installing Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration.

1.2 Naming Conventions in Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration

Before you begin to install Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration, gather the following information:

• Customer short code: a four-character code uniquely identifying the customer on the system.

• Environment type: Test, Development, Stage, or Production.

• Software component: Identified by the one-character code, i, for Oracle Applications 11i.

The name of your environment determines the database system identifier (SID), mount points, and user names and groups. Each environment type has its own set of port numbers.

The name of the database SID, environment and the user names are defined as follows:

• Database SID: A concatenation of the first letter of the environment type with the customer short code. It is also used for mount points and user names.

• Environment name: A combination of the database SID with the software component code.

• User names: The names are defined as follows:

  • The oracle user name is made by concatenating or with the database SID.

  • The applications user name is made by concatenating ap with the database SID.

Table 1-1 provides examples of the environment names, database SID, and user names for the environments. In these examples, the sequence abcd represents the customer short code.

1.3 Configuration Options with Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration

Oracle Applications 11i consists of the following tiers:

• Database

• Concurrent Processing

• Administration

• Web

• Forms

The installation options for Oracle Applications are as follows:

• Single-node – An installation where all five tiers (Database, Concurrent Processing, Administration, Web, and Forms) are on the same system.

• Two-node – An installation where the database-tier is on one node, and another tier (Concurrent Processing, Administration, Web, or Forms) is on the other node.

• Multi-node – An installation where one or more tiers are spread across three or more systems.

1.4 Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration Components

Table 1-2 shows components that are common to all platforms of Oracle E-Business Suite Certified Configuration.
